About Northcomm

A small, independent telecoms company in Northern Ireland, run by people who have spent their careers building phone systems for places where the phones going down is a serious problem.

Why we started

Because the way business telephony is sold to small firms in Northern Ireland is not great. A low headline price, a long contract, and then a slow accumulation of charges: a fee for support, a fee per feature, a call-out charge every time you want an extension moved. By year two the bill bears no relation to what was quoted.

We decided to do the opposite and make it boring. One price per phone, everything switched on, changes made for nothing, and a phone number that a person answers. There is no clever commercial model behind that. It is just what we would want if we were buying it.

What is actually behind it

The technical side of Northcomm comes out of more than twenty five years in telecoms, including large scale enterprise phone system work on sites the size of hospitals, where the standard for a phone system is that it does not fail and nobody notices it exists.

That matters because a lot of companies selling hosted telephony are resellers. They take somebody else's platform, put a logo on it, and when something genuinely goes wrong they are as much in the dark as you are. We run our own platform, which means when you ring us with a problem, the person you speak to can actually go and look.

How we sell

Not very aggressively, is the honest answer. Our prices are on the website because we would rather you knew them before ringing than sat through a discovery call to find out. If what you need is not something we do well, we will tell you. If a quote you have from someone else is a good one, we will tell you that too.

There is a deadline coming that affects nearly every business with a landline, and we could make a lot of noise about it. We would rather explain it properly and let people decide. Here is that explanation.

Where we work

Bangor, Belfast, Newtownards, Holywood, Comber, Donaghadee and the areas around them. Close enough that when something needs a person on site, a person goes.
